An Alabama police officer battled with an inmate who grabbed for the officer's gun while being escorted.
Cullman Police Officer Matt Hollingsworth, who was working an off-duty job at the time, was asked to help escort an inmate—John Robert Harvell—to a transport unit, the department stated in an online post. When the officers reached a door, Harvell went to grab for Hollingsworth's gun.
"Officer Hollingsworth was able to secure his weapon and get Harvell under control," the department stated.
Harvell, who had been arrested for a probation violation, also was charged third-degree escape. The department commended Hollingsworth "for his quick reaction and ability to get the subject under control."
